About the Festival

Fujairah International Monodrama Festival

Fujairah International Monodrama Festival is a huge theatrical event held in Fujairah once every two (2) years.  Dibba Al-Fujairah Theatre rises with glory in its organization and direction of the event that celebrates theatre as an art which takes peoples’ artistic awareness to a higher level, and enhances their artistic taste away from the sparkle of trophies and competition as it is usually the case in other festivals.

The purpose of organizing this festival is to establish the presence of the Monodrama Theatre (Solo Performance) in the Arabic Theatre generally and in the UAE Theatre in particular, and to create circumstances and conditions for the progress of this complicated and rising art and to support the young talented artists which can contribute to its growth.

Based on that, this festival is considered as an effective and productive environment for that art’s growth and prosperity by holding plays that satisfies the required level of art. This will be achieved through Arabic and foreign participation, as well as holding practical and educative seminars alongside the festival.

Specifications of the participating shows:

1-      The show should respect the monodrama’s specifications that depend on one actor only.

2-      The show should avoid the traditional presentation and treatment of the script which is free of the creative glow, and should carry out the creative ambition for this theatrical art.

Activities alongside the festival:

1-      Holding practical seminars following each play to highlight some aspects of the play, and then forming an artistic and scientific vision that supports the Monodrama Theatrical movement with efficient additions.

2-      Holding a main seminar about the monodrama art with the participation of an elite group of experts and artists.

3-      Issuing a daily publication that covers all the performances of the festival, documents its activities and sets to attract the audience to the theatrical culture away from the coldness and monotony of the criticism’s definitions.

4-      Holding sessions that strengthen the relations and the dialogues between the participating delegates.

5-      Organizing a set of tours around the UAE to explain to the participating delegates the main archaeological, urban, and tourist areas.

6-      Holding live meetings between the participating artists and the audience to achieve the aim of the festival in forming mass attendance for that theatrical art and getting the benefit from the fully developed theatrical experiences.
